John Ray Rose, 79, La Crosse, died Friday, March 23, 2018.

He was born to Ray and Alice (Fruit) Rose. He graduated from Haviland High School, Pratt Community College and Fort Hays State College.

He married Meredith Rose on Aug. 9, 1964, in Greensburg. He taught and coached a total of 37 years in the Haviland, Garden City, and La Crosse school systems. Upon retiring, he became a published author of several books for children and adults.

Survivors include his wife, Meredith; a son, Michaela and wife, Nicole; a daughter, Anne Marie Rose and Todd Adams; three brothers, Charlie and wife, Judeen, Leroy and wife, Diane, and Richard and wife, Rosalie; three sisters, Kathryn Barron, Carolyn Rasheta and George Lontos, and Rita Sluder and husband, Danny; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Daniel.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, La Crosse; burial will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Wellsford Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, and from 10 to 10:50 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church, La Crosse, or Barnard Library, La Crosse, in care of the funeral home.
