Irene Vonfeldt, 96, formerly of Walker, died Sunday, March 25, 2018, at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield, Iowa.

She was born March 25, 1922, in Walker to John and Agnes (Schumacher) Gerstner.

She married Acquiline “Ack” Vonfeldt on May 29, 1945, in Walker. He preceded her in death April 13, 1954.

She was a postmaster at Walker for 30 years. She later moved to Salina and worked at the Holiday Inn and Kline’s Department Store. After retirement, she moved to Iowa to live with her daughter, Carol and husband, Don.

She was a member of the St. Ann Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Christian Mothers, both of Walker, St. Fidelis Daughters of Isabell and Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 1751, both of Victoria.

She enjoyed playing bingo, Kansas City Royals and always was willing to help anyone in the Walker area. She enjoyed her family and spending time with them.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Sander and husband, Don, Richland, Iowa; two grandchildren, Clayton Sander, Richland, and Renee Eberhart and husband, Jason, Topeka; three great-grandchildren, Ashley Johnson, Corey Kindlesparger and Thomas Armstrong; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Elizabeth “Betty” Moore; four brothers, Fred, Edward, Alfred and Richard Gerstner; two sisters, Albina Kippes and Regina Solomon; and an infant sister, Katherine Gerstner.

Her body will be cremated per her request. A Mass in her honor will be April 14 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Fairfield; a private inurnment will be at a later date at St. Ann Cemetery, Walker.
