Vernon J. “Vern” Basgall, 76, Hays, died Sunday, April 1, 2018, at his home.

He was born March 15, 1942, in Hays to Jerome and Regina (Urban) Basgall. He was a 1960 graduate of Victoria High School and attended Fort Hays State University for one year.

He married Betty Morrison on Aug. 22, 1964, in Loretto. She preceded him in death March 17, 2004. He was an Engineer Tech 4 with the Kansas Department of Transportation until his retirement.

He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

He enjoyed golf, bowling, fishing, hunting, camping, and spending time with his grandsons.

Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Renee’ Kuhn, Hays, and Lisa Marie Fuller, Tuscon, Ariz.; a brother, Dan Basgall and wife, Linda, Hays; a sister; Shirley Gottschalk, Manhattan; and a grandson, Kevin Kuhn and wife, Crystal, Hays.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays; burial in the La Crosse City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Friday, both at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine, Hays, KS 67601.

A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Fort Hays Municipal Golf Course in care of the funeral home.
