Alfred Jacobs, 91, Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Salina, died Tuesday, May 3, 2018, after recurring, prolonged illnesses at his home.

He was born May 1, 1927, in Pfeifer to John P. and Margaret Jacobs. 

After working for the Union Pacific Railroad and Ellis County Road Department for several years he purchased Jacobs Service in Pfeifer in April 1959, and built it into a thriving business enterprise he operated for more than 30 years.

Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Virginia Jacobs; two sons, Fred Jacobs and wife, Jane, and Tim Jacobs and wife, Joyce; a daughter, Stacy Miller and husband, John; two stepsons, Mark and Michael Crain and wife, Renee; four stepdaughters, Cheryl Alexander, Deborah Moss and husband, Ed, Nancy Wetig and husband, John, and Lisa Viegra and husband, Jerry; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 51 years, Rita Mae Jacobs; a daughter, Karen Baczkowski; his parents; 10 brothers and sisters; and four stepbrothers.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Salina; burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Salina.

Friends can call from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday with family receiving friends from 4 to 8 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary, Salina and a visitation from 11 a.m. until time of service Monday at the church.

A vigil will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
