Peggy Kay (Hattrup) Lee, 73, Hays, died Sunday, May 6, 2018, at her home.

She was born Dec. 28, 1944, in Dodge City to Bernard “Ben” and Mary (Schmidt) Hattrup. She attended St. Joseph Private School in Offerle and was a 1962 graduate of Windthorst High School. She attended the Dominican School of Nursing in Great Bend.

She married John Edward Lee on May 27, 1995, in Offerle. She became a registered nurse. Her career included working at Hadley Hospital in Hays, Edwards County Hospital, the Medical Lodge in Kinsley, Dodge City Medical Center and as a school nurse for USD 347.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Offerle, Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays, and American Legion Auxiliary, Kinsley.

She enjoyed reading, singing, dancingand spending time with her grandchildren and family.

Survivors include her husband of the home in Hays; a son, John Balman and wife, Seana, Manhattan; two daughters, Jamie Wallace and husband, John, Raymore, Mo., and Cindy Smith and husband, Mike, Hays; a stepson, Rick Lee and wife, Crystal, Beeler; three stepdaughters; Donave Yarmer and husband, Mel, Albert, Julie Yarmer and husband, Maurice, Russell; and Valisa Wagner and husband, Scott, Denver; two sisters, Marcella Heeke, Conroe, Texas, and Linda Strecker and husband, Joe, Dodge City; 10 grandchildren, Shane McBee, Sarah McBee, August Balman, Wyatt Balman, Jonas Balman, Juliet Balman, Ethan Balman, Catherine Balman, Shannon Smith, and Cassidy Smith; 11 step-grandchildren, Danny Yarmer, Valerie Wondra, Tim Yarmer, Matthew Yarmer, Diana Harmony, Justin Yarmer, Neil Yarmer, Sara Simoneau, Danielle Lee, Caleb Lee, and Michalla Pratt; a great-granddaughter; Cora Cooper; and 20 step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother; a sister; Benita Bullock; and a brother-in-law, Pete Heeke.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays; burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday in St. Joseph Cemetery, Offerle.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Friday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine, Hays, KS 67601.

A vigil/rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
