William A. “Bill” Witthuhn, 86, Hays, died Thursday, May 10, 2018, at Hays Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 14, 1931, in Bazine to Richard William and Amanda (Michel) Witthuhn. He grew up in Bazine and was a 1948 graduate of Bazine High School.

He married Doris (Liggett) on Sept. 2, 1952, in Bazine. He worked for White Star Machinery of Wichita for more than 30 years as a manager/salesman of construction equipment, and retired in 1985. He lived in Great Bend and Wichita before moving to Hays in 1987. He operated Hen House Ceramics with his wife and family for a few years and delivered flowers for Dillons in Hays for more than 20 years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, stationed in Fort Worth, Texas.

He was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, American Legion and was a Past Commander.

He enjoyed camping, woodworking and vegetable gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Via Christi Village, Hays; two sons, Richard J. Witthuhn and wife, Traci, Cape Fair, Mo., and Donnie L. Witthuhn, Wichita; a daughter, Jeannie Wideman and husband, Roy, Hays; a brother, Lester Witthuhn and wife, Elaine, Hays; four grandchildren, Brent Witthuhn and wife, Mandy, Crystal Perez and husband, Isaac, Jennifer Adams and husband, Mark and Tim Wideman and (Paige); 10 great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces .

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 E. 22nd, Hays, KS 67601 with military honors by Hays V.F.W. Post No. 9076; an inurnment will be at a later date in Bazine Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 to 11 am. Saturday, both at the mortuary.
