Dan Kane, 64, Clay Center, formerly of Hays, died Monday, May 21, 2018, at his home.

He was born July 1, 1953, in Cheverly, Md., to William Matthew Jr. and Shirley (Steves) Kane. He was a 1971 graduate Hays High School and attended North Central Kansas Vo-Tech. 

He married Linda Kite on June 21, 1985. He was a heavy equipment operator for Alsop Sand Co. and later worked for Mastercarved Memorials. 

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Friends of Fancy Creek Range, was a Boy Scout leader and a hunter safety instructor. 

Survivors include his wife, Clay Center; two brothers, William Kane and wife, Deb, Grand Junction, Colo., and John Kane, Denver; three sisters, Claire Loughry and husband, John, Centennial, Colo., Katie Pickering and husband, Don, BelAir, Md.; a sister, Susan Kane and wife, Lanka Elson, Centreville, Md.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, Clay Center; burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home, Clay Center.

Memorials are suggested to Clay Center United Methodist Church, BSA Troop 54/Pack 55, Meadowlark Hospice or Cancer Treatment Center, Manhattan in care of the funeral home.
