Robert Isidore “RIP” Pfannenstiel, 89, Ness City, died Friday, June 15, 2018, at Ness County Hospital.

He was born March 6, 1929, south of Ness City to Isidore and Barbara (Sauer) Pfannenstiel. He attended a one room school house, Sidney, which was located 1.5 miles south of Ness City.

He married Patricia M. Legg on June 4, 1956, in Ness City. He was a farmer and stockman and he and his brother, Jim, raised buffalo on the family farm in the 1980s. He worked 40 years for the Santa Fe Railroad in the Maintenance of Way (track department). He started as a trackman, was promoted to machine operator then to section foreman, then to production foreman and relief supervisor. He was a U.S. Naval Air Force veteran. After boot camp he was an aerial gunner and spent half of his time overseas.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Ness City, American Legion Post No. 152, Ness City, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7972, Ransom for more than 50 years.

Survivors include his children; two brothers, Larry and wife, Delores, and Donald Pfannenstiel; a sister, Clara Marie Feltz; five nieces; eight nephews; and two grandchildren, Megan and Trevor Moore, children of John and Cindy (Huxman) Moore.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Clarence, Marvin and Jim; and two sisters, Bernice DiSalvo and Theresa Friess.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church, Ness City; burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Friends can call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City.

A rosary/vigil will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart Church or Sacred Heart School, in care of the funeral home.
