Richard Dwain Schmalzried, 80, Quinter, formerly of Dighton, died Monday, June 18, 2018.

He was born March 29, 1938, in Dighton to Dayton and Selma (Uppendahl) Schmalzried. He was a 1956 graduate of Dighton High School, attended Fort Hays State University for several years and graduated from the Colorado School of Banking in 1972.

He married Rozan Heath on July 22, 1962. He was a school bus driver.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years; three sons, Rick Schmalzried, Lafayette, Ind., Rory Schmalzried, Castle Rock, Colo., and Rhett Schmalzried-Lugo, Olathe; two daughters, Rache Wente, Quinter, and RaLynn (Schmalzried) Schmidt, Topeka; a twin brother, Ronald Schmalzried, Topeka; a sister, Mary Wagner, Lincoln, Neb.; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Quinter Church of the Brethren; graveside services and burial will be at 3 p.m. in Dighton Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the family home, 2590 County Road 74, Quinter.
