Vivian Ann (Long) Herrmann, 80, died Monday, July 9, 2018, in Hays.

She was born Dec. 21, 1937, in Union Township, Sheridan County to John and Ura (Launchbaugh) Long. She attended one-room school in Waverly, earned a bachelor’s of science degree in education from Emporia State University and a master’s degree in business management.

She married John Herrmann on Dec. 27, 1958. He preceded her in death. She was a quality assurance specialist for Rockwell International, working on the B1A and B1B Bombers. When she retired in 1994, they returned to the family acreage in Sheridan County where they built their dream home.

She was a member of the McGraw Methodist church, serving as pianist and treasurer for more than 20 years.

She enjoyed sewing and crafting and always had a book of anacrostic puzzles in the works. She enjoyed her flower garden, koi pond, animal friends of all kinds and her grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter, Kelly Smith and husband Adam; and five grandchildren, Kyle Broxson, Yuba City, Calif.,Noah, Levi, and Emily Smith, Hays and Sara, Oketo; her daughter-in-law, Diane Herrmann; and two nieces, Jeanne Brooks and Joanne Long; and three nephews, Jeff Long, Joe Long and Jim Long.

She was preceded in death by a son, David Herrmann and a brother, Vernon Long.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at McGraw United Methodist Church; burial in Hoxie Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Monday at Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, Hoxie.
