Maxine Lena Diederich, 79, Hays, died Wednesday, July 18, 2018, in Hays.
She was born Nov. 27, 1938, in Damar to Victor and Cecilia (Benoit) Simoneau.
She married Carl Francis Diederich on June 24, 1961, in Damar. He preceded her in death June 5, 1999.
She was a registered nurse for more than 30 years. Her career included the Norton County Hospital in Norton, Logan Manor and St. Anthony Hospital in Hays, as well as the ambulance service in Logan. She also was a long time volunteer for the Hays Community Assistance Center.
She was a member of Daughters of Isabella and Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Hays.
Survivors include two sons, Dave Diederich, Manhattan, and John Diederich and wife, Cindy, Wamego; two daughters, Debra Honeyman and husband, Mark, Auburn, and Chris Gottschalk and husband, Kevin, Hays; two brothers, Jed Simoneau and wife, Rose, Cody, Wyo., and Dennis Simoneau, Denver; four sisters, Eileen Pekarek and husband, Larry, Topeka, and Jeanice Diederich, Amarillo, Texas, Phyllis Simoneau and Angie Steele, both of Denver; seven grandchildren, Kyle and wife, Jessi, Kurtis and wife, Delana, Kelsee and husband Gary, Kaylor, Madison, Mallory and Mason; and three great-grandchildren, Kaden, Aubrey and Klaire.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Randy Diederich; and five brothers, Alcid, Marvin, Ronald, Jerome and Clifford Simoneau.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, both at Brock’s Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601.
A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 6:45 p.m. Monday, followed by a vigil, both at the funeral chapel.
Memorials are suggested to Thomas More Prep-Marian High School or IHMC Building Fund in care of the funeral chapel.
