Wayne A. Jacobs, 78, Hays, died Thursday, July 19, 2018, at Hays Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 30, 1939, in Pfeifer to Anthony and Regina (Breit) Jacobs.
He married Clairella R. Werth on Oct. 23, 1971, in Schoenchen. He was a longtime farmer and retired as foreman for the Ellis County Road and Bridge Department.
He was a sports enthusiast that followed all sports, especially his Duke Blue Devils. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, tending to his garden, hunting and fishing with his family. Most of all his family was most important to him. He enjoyed his grandchildren and he cherished every moment following his children and grandchildren in their sports activities.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Hays; three daughters, Karla Neil and husband, Bill, Russell, Kristy Schlaefli and husband, Dustin, and Kaylene Gabel and husband, Chris, all of Hays; five sisters, Darlene Sander, Hays, Dolores Unrein, Broomfield, Colo., Isabella Schuckman, Aurora, Colo., Rosie Unrein, Bennett, Colo., and Carol Moeder, Arvada, Colo.; two grandchildren, Mattison and Keaton Schlaefli, both of Hays; and 80 nephews and nieces as well as numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Marvin Jacobs; six sisters, Lucille Dreher, Elsie Stegman, Eva Jacobs, Wilma Kuhn and Theresa Bieker; and an infant sister, Cecelia Jacobs.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Pfeifer; burial in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, both at the Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601.
A rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, followed by a vigil, both at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.
