Samuel Clayton Shoaff, 89, Great Bend, formerly of Russell, died Thursday, July 12, 2018, at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend.

He was born June 11, 1929, in Hardtner to Charles L. Sr. and Ruth A. (McCabe) Shoaff. He married Betty F. Hanzlicek on May 22, 1955, in Wilson. She preceded him in death Dec. 22, 2013.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge and American Legion Argonne Post No. 180, all of Great Bend. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War, obtaining the rank of Staff Sargent and then worked as a parts man until retirement.

Survivors include a son, Brian K. Shoaff and wife, Laura, Hays; two sisters, Barbara Majernik, Ulysses, and Dorothy Stephens, Las Vegas; a brother, George Shoaff, Las Vegas; two granddaughters, Morgan Shoaff, Brooklyn, N.Y, and Alexa (Shoaff) Wiens, Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by brother, Charles Shoaff Jr.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Kansas Veterans Cemetery, WaKeeney. Military rites will be conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. A reception will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Great Bend.

Memorials are suggested to Kansas Honor Flight or Kindred Hospice in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
