Darrell L. Boggs, 82, Hays, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2015, at his daughter’s home in Hays. He was born April 28, 1936, in Preston to Arthur Joseph and Gladys May (Wonder) Boggs. He grew up in Preston and was a graduate of Preston High School. He attended Pratt Junior College and was a graduate of Emporia Sate College.

He married Patricia (Schulte) in 1963. She preceded him in death. He was a junior high/high school science and math teacher. He taught school in Pratt, Canton, Sun City and Poway, Calif. He taught at Victoria High School for10 years then Otis-Bison, Arkansas and Texas where he retired in May of 2000. While teaching at Victoria he also coached freshman football, drove the activity bus and school bus. He moved back to the Hays area in 2000.

Survivors include a son, David W. Boggs, Topeka; a daughter, Teresa M. Gross and husband, Scott J., Hays; three grandchildren, C J Hathaway and husband, Joseph, Boston, Mass., Sophia Rose Gross and Juliet Anne Gross, both of Hays.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lauren Merle Boggs; and two sisters, Iva Lu Harrison and Caroline Stalcup.

A private family service and inurnment will be at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, The Nature Conservancy or UNICFF, in care of the mortuary.
