Arthur V. Reif, 72, Great Bend, formerly of Hoisington and Osborne, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018, at his home.
He was born Oct. 4, 1945, in Hoisington to Alfred and Clara (Polzin) Reif. He was a 1963 graduate of Osborne High School.
He was the owner of Petroleum Electric Co. for 30 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving as an RD-3 during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, the American Petroleum Institute Western Kansas Chapter, and Kansas Independent Oil and Gas Association.
Survivors include a daughter, Sheryl Peak and husband, Travis, Great Bend; a stepdaughter, Nicole Messersmith and Jody, Great Bend; four brothers, Charles Reif and wife, Lucille, Plainville, Robert Reif, Arizona, Alfred Reif and wife, Anne and Victor Reif, all of Osborne; four sisters, Alice Snyder, Oologah, Okla., Inez Vohs, Haysville, Virginia Wrench , Manhattan, and Theresa Boxum and husband, Ron, Lebanon; two grandchildren, Allison Peak and Braydan Peak; three step grandchildren, Kiana Ferrel and husband, Emmanuel, Darah Messersmith, and Devin Messersmith; and four step great-grandchildren, Madelyn Ferrell, Jasilyn, Jaxon, and Sebastion Messersmith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edgar Reif; a sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Yarnell; his grandparents, William and Kathryn Polzin and Antone H. and Josephine Reif.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church; burial in St. John Catholic Cemetery, Hoisington, with military honors by the U.S. Naval Honor Guard.
Friends can call until 5 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington. Casket will be closed.
A vigil/rosary will be 7 p.m. Wednesday a the funeral home.
