Jacob “Jack” Peter Waldschmidt, 85, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018, at Villa Maria Skilled Nursing Center, Mulvane.
He was born March 12, 1933, in Ellis County to Herman and Pauline (Boos) Waldschmidt. He was a 1952 graduate of Ellis High School.
He married June Garrison on Jan. 25, 1958, in Ellis. He was a master machinist, working at several aircraft companies, including Boeing, Cessna, Learjet, L&S, and Q Corp. He also started his own machine shop business which he continued until his retirement. Upon retiring, they moved from Derby to Attica, where he pursued his passion of farming for several decades. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
He was an avid outdoorsman; active in Boy Scout Troop No. 692 and enjoyed camping and fishing. In his spare time, he enjoyed dancing with the Village Steppers and Harper County Square Dancers.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Gary Waldschmidt and wife, Dianne, Derby; two daughters, Rachel Coleman and husband, Kent, Charlotte, N.C., and Vickie Gore and husband, Arun, Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, Ralph Waldschmidt and wife, Dorothy, Ellis and Leo Waldschmidt, Haysville; a sister, Marilyn Walters, Walla Walla, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Kate Rodriguez; and a son, Jeffrey Waldschmidt.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Attica Cemetery.
Cremation has taken place. Friends can register from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at Prairie Rose Funeral Home, Harper.
Memorials are suggested to Villa Maria Skilled Nursing Center in care of the funeral home.
