Shirley Ann (Schoenthaler) Engel, 84, Westminster, Colo., formerly of WaKeeney, died Sunday Oct. 21, 2018, at Lutheran Medical Center, Wheat Ridge, Colo.
She was born Sept. 27, 1934 in WaKeeney to Fredrick “Bill” Schoenthaler and Zeta Duncan. She was a 1952 graduate of Trego County High School.
She married LeRoy Engel on Nov. 6, 1956. They lived in the WaKeeney and Ellis area until 1966. The family moved to Westminster in the summer of 1966. She owned and operated Shirley’s Beauty Salon for over 27 years, retiring in 1997.
She was a member of a local Ole Foxie Bottle Club & International Association of Jim Beam Bottle Collector’s. They traveled all over the United States, attending over 32 conventions.
Survivors include two sons, Mark Engel and wife, Terrie, Fort Worth, Texas, and Mike Engel and wife, Janette, Arvada, Colo.; a brother, Laverne “Sonny” Schoenthaler and wife, Carolyn, WaKeeney; five grandchildren,
Alissa, Brennan, Cherice, Alexis and Rylan; four great-grandchildren, Brody, Cade, Drake and Ava; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Ruthie Benish.
Services were Oct. 25 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Westminster; burial was Oct. 26 in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Wheat Ridge, Colo.
