John David Woods, 57, La Crosse, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018, after fighting a tough 2.5 year battle with cancer.

He was born March 20, 1961, in Clearwater to Marleene (Mourning) Woods. A country boy who became devoted to farm work at an early age, tending the farm at dawn, attending school and returning home to continue his chores. He grew up his elementary years in Garden City, later moving to McCracken in junior high and then moving to Rush Center. He was a 1979 graduate of La Crosse High School.

He married Carolyn Kline on Oct. 29, 1983. He devoted his life to caring for his family and for driving and dispatching trucks. He recently worked for Miller Trucking in La Crosse.

When asked about his hobbies, he would often state he was a workaholic. He spent most of the last few years enjoying time with his kids and a grandchild. He was fond of the mountains.

Survivors include his wife, La Crosse, Kansas; two sons, Christopher Woods, Wichita, and David Woods, Wichita Falls, Texas; two daughters, Samantha Kelly, and husband, Michael, Westminster, Colo., and Sabrina Woods, Hays; his mother, Clearwater; a sister, Tammie Keen, and husband, Tim Keen, Terre Haute, Ind.; and a grandchild, Harvey Kelly, Westminster.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Toy Ann Woods; his grandfather, John Mourning, Jr., and grandmother, Irene (Jones) Mourning.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church, La Crosse; burial in La Crosse City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse and from 9 to 9:50 a.m. Saturday at the church.

A vigil/rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
