Larry LeRoy Thompson, 80, Russell, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018, at Wheatland Nursing Center, Russell.
He was born Oct. 28, 1938, in Edwardsville, Ill., to Leanis LeRoy and Isal G. (Powers) Thompson. He was a graduate of Edwardsville High School.
After serving his country, he came back to Edwardsville and eventually started his own successful business as a guttering and siding contractor for many years. He eventually moved to Russell. He was a U.S Navy veteran, serving at the end of the Korean war and beginning of the Vietnam war.
Survivors include two daughters, Laura Hopper, Russell, and Dawn St. Peters, Atlanta; a brother, Gary Thompson, Russell; two sisters Evelyn Jones, Wood River, Ill., and Virginia Wilhold, Edwardsville; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A private family service will be at a later date and the family has selected cremation. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell, is in charge of arrangements and cards can be sent to the mortuary.
