Conrad 'Connie' L. Rohr Sr.

Conrad "Connie" L. Rohr Sr., 84, Hays, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at Ellis Good Samaritan Center after a four-year struggle with metastatic prostate cancer.

He was born Sept. 5, 1929, in Hays to Joseph L. and Agatha (Dreher) Rohr.

He married Benita A. Rohr in August 1950. He was employed at S&W Supply Co., Hays, and Central Welding and Machine, Hutchinson. He was drafted in May 1951 for the Korean War, stationed in Soeul, Puson and Tague, Korea, with the 22nd Signal Group Headquarters-Headquarters Co., (motor pool division) and was discharged in April 1953 at Camp Carson, Colo.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Veteran of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus Council No. 1325 and Bishop Cunningham Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.

He enjoyed playing golf daily after retirement.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, of the home; a son Conrad L. Rohr Jr. and wife, Debra, Wichita; a daughter, Becky Schaeffer and husband, Gary, Hays; two sisters, Clementine Begler and Marcella Wolf, Denver; four grandchildren, Matt and Courtney Rohr, Wichita, Cherise Schaeffer, Shawnee, and Alex Schaeffer, Laguna Hills, Calif.; and two great-granddaughters, Marleigh and Maira Rohr, Wichita.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Philip, Ted, Jerry, Adolph and Alfred; and two sisters, Rosie Dinkel and Florine Pelzel.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, with military honors by the VFW.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, both at Brocks North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine.

A rosary by the Daughters of Isabella will be at 6 p.m. Friday, a Bishop Cunningham Fourth Degree Knights rosary will be at 6:30 p.m., followed by a vigil at 7 p.m., all the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice, Masses at St. Joseph Church or to the elevator fund at St. Joseph Church office building in care of the funeral home.
