Dan Neal McManigal Jr.
Dan Neal McManigal Jr., 41, Louisburg, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014.
He was born June 26, 1972, in Fort Rucker, Ala., to Dan McManigal Sr. and Theresa (Marcotte) Spore. He was a 1990 graduate of Thomas More Prep-Marian High School in Hays. He attended Kansas University for a year. He transferred to Johnson County Community College and graduated in 1993 as a paramedic.
He married Jolene Hartgrave on Oct. 17, 2000, in Las Vegas. They settled in Louisburg in 2004. He worked for Johnson County Med-Act as a paramedic for 20 years, achieving the rank of captain. He was a CPR and ALS instructor for the department and participated on the tactical team and EMS bike team. During his tenure, he received many awards and achievements, including the "Distinguished Service Award" and the "People Saving People" award from the Kansas Department of Transportation.
He enjoyed hunting and cooking. His specialty was cooking for the annual Saint Patrick's Day Party. He enjoyed working as a paramedic at NASCAR races and stand-by at local football games. He was a superb instructor, teacher and mentor to countless young EMTs and paramedics.
Survivors include his wife, Louisburg; a son, Colin, age 9, Louisburg; a daughter, Ashlyn, age 11, Louisburg; a sister, Debora May and husband, Jason, and their children, Hayden, Grant and Grace, all of Pratt; his grandfather, Neal McManigal and wife, Pat, Waldport, Ore.; a brother-in-law, Scott Hartgrave and wife, Debbie, and their children Annika and Lillian, all of Louisburg; a sister-in-law, Jennie Woolman and husband, Caleb and their children, Cody and Alaina, all of Suisun City, Calif.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Francis and Dorothy Marcotte; and his grandmother, Delores Goon.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Louisburg United Methodist Church, 249 N. Metcalf Road, Louisburg; burial in Louisburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church.
