Eugene Leedale Wagner


Eugene Leedale Wagner, 78, Ness City, died Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Ness County Hospital.

He was born March 10, 1936, southeast of Ness City to Edwin and Mabel (Hinkel) Wagner. He attended Bells-Letters country school from first through eighth grades. He was a 1954 graduate of Ness City High School. In Sept. 1955, he went to school at Fort Hays State University for one year.

He married Helen Kraft on Jan. 6, 1962, in Ness City. He worked for Durfee Implement Company, Cooper Dry Goods, Siebert Sand Company Gambles, Rod Borger Construction and the Right Coop Association, from which he retired after 22 years. He was well-known for his work as a bicycle repairman, Gene's Hobby Shop, and all-around handyman. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was a member of the American Legion Frank Stull Post No. 152 and Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, both of Ness City.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons, Mark and fiance, Michelle Fisher, The Woodlands, Texas, Darin Wagner and wife, Kayla, Prosper, Texas, and Corey Wagner and wife, Kelly, Whitesboro, Texas; a daughter, Kimberly Smith and husband, Dan, Ness City; two brothers, Dwight, Larned, and Wilbert, Dighton; and seven grandchildren, Brandyn, Chandler and Jazlyn Wagner, Morgan and Kaydan Smith, Addison Wagner and Kiley Wagner.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda Wagner; and his sister, Donna Dossett.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City; burial in Ness City Cemetery.

Friends can call from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
