Freda DeBey, 86, Downs, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Golden Living Center, Downs.
She was born June 10, 1927, in Winchester to Rollo and Grace (Ray) Trower. She grew up in the Atchinson area.
She married Harry DeBey on Nov. 9, 1941, in Atchinson. After 55 years of marriage, he preceded her in death Sept. 11, 1997. After marriage, she lived in Downs for more than 50 years. She worked for Stigge's clothing store and Bower's Gift Shop in Downs.
She was a Red Cross volunteer for many years and belonged to the Red Hat Society ladies club.
She enjoyed working in her flower gardens and tending to her bird feeders, cross stitch and embroidery.
Survivors include a daughter, Dianne (DeBey) Gasper and husband, Edward, Victoria; a brother; four sisters; four grandchildren, Troy Gasper and wife, Amy, Terry Gasper and companion, Jody Mendenhall, and Racquel Gerhardt and husband, Frank, all of Victoria, and Tyler Gasper and wife, Stacy, Hutchinson; three great-grandsons, Dalton and Dylan Gasper, both of Victoria, and Curtis Gasper, Hays; two great-granddaughters, Madisyn Gerhardt, Victoria, and Michelle Gasper, Hutchinson; two step-great-grandsons, Randall Polifka, Hutchinson, and Chase Polifka, Concordia.
She was preceded in death by six brothers; three sisters; a great-grandson, Craig Gasper; and two great-granddaughters, Kendra and Kaitlyn Gasper.
Private graveside services were Friday in Downs Cemetery.
