Leo J. Pivonka, 97, La Crosse, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, at Hays Medical Center.

He was born March 9, 1917, in Timken to Frank and Mary (Bizek) Pivonka.

He was a 1935 graduate of La Crosse High School. He was a farmer.

He married Lucile Wilson Jan. 9, 1937, in La Crosse. She preceded him in death April 18, 2008.

After living in Chaffee County, Colo., from 1938 to 1942, they moved back to Rush County.

He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council No. 2970, both of La Crosse.

Survivors include two sons, James Franklin Pivonka, La Crosse, and Leo Michael Pivonka and wife, Gretchen, Alameda, Calif.; three daughters, Katharine Eisenhour Flannagan, Lawrence, Priscilla Sue Anderson and husband, Brad, Lexington, Ky., and Laurie I. Pivonka and Rolf Penner, Wichita; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Linda Diane Pivonka; a son-in-law, James D. Eisenhour; two brothers, Charles and Thomas Pivonka; and three sisters, Sister Simeon Pivonka, Louise Schmidt and Clara Weigand.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church, La Crosse; burial in La Crosse City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, with family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. A vigil service will be at 7 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to St. Michael Catholic Church, La Crosse, or the Nature Trail, La Crosse.
