Melvin E. Strobel
Melvin E. Strobel, 84, Garfield, died Friday, May 16, 2014, at Diversicare of Larned.
He was born March 29, 1930, in Larned to Arthur Eugene and Edna Mae (Bird) Strobel.
He married Alice Joan Fairchild on April 6, 1952, in Larned. She preceded him in death Dec. 7, 1997. He was a bus monitor for USD 495, Garfield. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was a member of United Methodist Church, American Legion, Lions Club and Over 50 Club, all of Garfield.
Survivors include two daughters, Melvina Jo Prescott and husband, Daryl, Garfield, and Tania J. Deets and husband, Don, Hays; a sister, Vadaline Strohm, Manhattan; four grandchildren, Emily Deets and Trevor Deets, both of Hays, Caleb Prescott, Larned, and Thomas Prescott, Macksville; and a great-grandchild, Breilynn Renz, Macksville.
Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned; burial in Garfield Cemetery, with military graveside rites.
Visitation will be until 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to Garfield United Methodist Church or Pawnee County 4-H in care of the mortuary.
