Melvin George Basgall


Melvin George Basgall, 76, Elk City, Okla., formerly of Larned, Wichita, Winslow, Ariz., and Hays, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013.

He was born Feb. 3, 1937, in La Crosse to Everett George and Sena (Hartman) Basgall. He was raised in La Crosse.

He married Judith Mae Herrman on June 18, 1962. He was the manager of the Waste Water Treatment Plant, Weatherford, Okla., prior to retirement in 2009, and in 2011 moved to Elk City. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, once stationed in Alaska.

He enjoyed fishing and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, George Basgall and wife, Rebecca, and Andrew Basgall, all of Elk City; two daughters, Rena' Basgall, Elk City, and Andrea Luthy and husband, Keith, Carter; a sister, Kathy Basgall, Wichita; eight brothers, Ralph, Wichita, Leroy and Bobby, both of Russell, Virgil, Carson City, Nev., Raymond, La Crosse, Ronnie, Great Bend, Daniel, Hays, and Tony, Cedar Bluff; eight grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, two brothers and a grandson.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthew Catholic Church; burial in Fairlawn Cemetery.
