Ray Eldon 'Rainbow Ray' Pruter


Ray Eldon "Rainbow Ray" Pruter, 87, Great Bend, formerly of Russell, Hays and Natoma, died Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at his home.

He was born Dec. 13, 1926, in Rooks County, south of Natoma, to Edwin and Clara (Massengale) Pruter. He grew up and attended school in Natoma.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1945 to 1946 at Fort Hood, Texas.

He married Norva Weldon on Sept. 28, 1951, in Natoma. He worked for the Rainbow Bread Co. until retirement in 1987.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, of the home; two sons, Dale E. Pruter and Kenny Pruter, both of Great Bend, a daughter, JoDell Glick, Pittsburg; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell; burial in Natoma City Cemetery, with military rites by Russell VFW Post No. 6240 Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, with family present to greet friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Polhman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell.

Memorials are suggested to Great Bend Church of the Nazarene Building Fund in care of the mortuary.
