Robert C. 'BoB' Templeton
Robert C. "BoB" Templeton, 80, Hays, died Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Hays Medical Center.
He was born April 17, 1934, in Hastings, Neb., to Thomas Carroll and Gladys Marie (Tippen) Templeton. He attended Broken Bow public schools and Hastings College before graduating from Brown Institute of Broadcasting, Minneapolis, Minn., in 1954.
He married Ruth Helen Streng on Dec. 25, 1956, in Beatrice, Neb. She preceded him in death Dec. 10, 2012.
He was a radio broadcaster, manager, program and news director for numerous radio stations from Nebraska, New Jersey, Wisconsin and ending with KAYS in Hays, retiring as manager in 1989. He was the executive director of the Hays Chamber of Commerce from 1989 until 2000.
He was affiliated with several national and state boards associated with broadcasting. He was involved in numerous community activities, as well as a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Smoky Hill Country Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Laura Lechner and husband, David, Wichita, and Kari Beetch and husband, Greg, Abilene; a brother, Tom Templeton and wife, Donna, Monte Vista, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Katie Thompson, Kori, Kristina, Nora and Nick Lechner, all of Wichita, Justin Beetch, Salina, Chad and Travis Beetch, both of Abilene; three great-grandchildren, Karley Luper, Kameryn and Kinley Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Harlee Lechner.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hays; inurnment in Mount Allen Cemetery, Hays. Brock's Funeral Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601, is in charge of arrangements.
