Ross Boyd Beamer
Ross Boyd Beamer, 87, Oakley, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Hays Medical Center.
He was born March 15, 1927, in Gove County to Clinton Ross and Ethel (Gallion) Beamer.
He married Joan Beckman on April 28, 1948, in Denver. He was a dairy farmer for more than 40 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1944 to 1946 on the USS Isherwood and USS Norris.
He was a member of Oakley Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He enjoyed gardening, bowling, playing pool and cards until macular degeneration made him give these up. His later recreations were casinos and going to get coffee at the local deli. He enjoyed his dog, Penny, and dozens of cats.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, David, Oakley, Richard, Bakersfield, Calif., and Steven, Grinnell; a sister, Geneva Brothers, Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren, Chelsea Creekmuir, Jenny Briseno, Sarah Spencer, Jola Miller and Travis Beamer; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Stewart Beamer; a son, Dennis Beamer; and two sisters, Leah Walz and Wilma Woodhouse.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley; burial in Oakley City Cemetery with military honors.
Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until time of the service Friday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the VFW or charity of the donor's choice in care of the mortuary.
