Gilbert Francis Dinkel, 87, Plainville, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014, at Rooks County Health Center, Plainville.

Gilbert Francis Dinkel, 87, Plainville, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014, at Rooks County Health Center, Plainville.

He was born Dec. 23, 1926, in Victoria to Bonavent and Margaret (Kuhn) Dinkel.

He married Cleota Mae Boucher on April 13, 1953, in Zurich.

He was an oilfield pumper and custodian at Sacred Heart Catholic School, Plainville. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; four sons, Allen Dinkel, Plainville, Nick Dinkel, Cross Junction, Va., Mark Dinkel, Garden City, and Dan Dinkel, Mesquite, Texas; three daughters, Paula Hertel, Cimarron, Lynette Dreher, Hays, and Lori Whitmyer, Arvada, Colo.; three brothers, Bob Dinkel, Plainville, and Leroy and Leland Dinkel, Victoria; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Dinkel; and two brothers, Donald and Hubert Dinkel.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Plainville; burial in Plainville Cemetery, with military rites by Windholz-Kuhn VFW Post No. 1751, Victoria.

Visitation will be from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, Plainville.

A rosary by Sacred Heart Ladies Guild will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with a vigil at 6:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church.
