Hand on heart

Last week, our country endured the fatal tragedy of the death of our U.S. ambassador to Libya along with three other Americans in a senseless, cowardly act at our embassy in Libya. Our country immediately flew our flags at half-staff.
In attending Friday evening's Hays High football game, I noticed our beautiful flag on the north end of Lewis field flying at half-staff.
But, to my shock, I could not believe Coach Cornelson deciding to keep his team inside the locker room during the playing of our national anthem. What is with you, coach?
Why not stand up our honorable active duty military personnel along with our veterans and slap them in the face. You might as well.
I am urging every citizen, especially our veterans, to contact our school board members today and insist they put a stop to this. What an insult.
Yes, coach, you can correct this right now. Demand that before any kickoff, all attendants of a sporting event -- from the concession stand worker to you and your team -- place your hand over your heart and honor our flag during the playing of the national anthem.
Get your act together, coach, and do the right thing.
Sandy Dinkel
