Library concerns

H.G. Wells said, "History is always a race between education and catastrophe."

There is no better example than the underhanded and possibly illegal assault on the award-winning Hays Public Library and its director, by the board, with the roar of axes being ground, and the stink of personal agendas in the background.

The director has worked tirelessly for many years, bringing the library to its present award-winning status, for size of population.

Instead of congratulating her and her staff, and taking pride in this communal achievement, the library board, in my opinion, is intent on returning our wonderful library to the mediocrity of a low-budget, heavily censored facility by a process of personal vendetta and micro-management.

Efforts are under way to lift the rock under that this nastiness is festering and bring the light of public scrutiny to bear on the possibly illegal, and most certainly unethical, machinations of this bunch of parish-pump throwbacks. The public is urged to show support for the director and her forward-looking policies, by whatever means seem appropriate, before this community loses her services, which would be a tragedy for all thinking people in the area.
