A Woodston woman continues to send uninvited baloney emails my way. The latest, circulating since at least January, claims that Medicare rates will more than double by 2014 to $270 per month, as a result of "Obamacare legislation" ,-- but the news has been "purposely delayed" so as to keep seniors uninformed.

In fact, the most recent Medicare projection is that the 2014 monthly rate will be $115.80. The email supposedly comes from one Peggy Riehle, an "Internal Representative of Network Contracting." Riehle advises forwarding the email to all seniors "so they will know who's throwing them under the bus."

I called BCBS of Alabama. A representative tells me they are aware of the propaganda email and have tried to inform the public. You can find more about the issue at www.snopes.com/politics/medical/medicare.asp.

And, seniors, if anyone has plans to throw you under the bus, it isn't President Obama.
