Missing the point

Mr. Lowry, I applaud you for your Feb. 15 editorial on Social Security, clearly pointing out this entitlement program is going to be a big problem down the road regarding expenditures far exceeding revenues. However, you completely avoided one very important fact.

Surely, you know the Democrat Party won't touch this problem with a 10-foot pole. Why didn't you mention that fact? Republicans have had some suggestions and proposals over the years.

It's not failure of Congress to act; it's failure of Democrats to act.

Point No. 1, Democrats say (which, of course, is ludicrous) we do not have a spending problem. To them, that no doubt includes Social Security.

Point No. 2, I keep reading Democrats don't want to touch any entitlement programs in current potential budget negotiations. Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, as with so many things, probably wouldn't even allow anything about Social Security to come up for a vote.

Point No. 3, if Republicans really got vocal about tackling this problem, here's what would happen as per Democrats and media. Just like Obama and his surrogates (that includes media), we would hear something like the following: "Republicans want dirty air and dirty water," "Republicans want to throw granny off the cliff," and, of course "Republicans want to take away Social Security even from those who could not go on living without it."

Media, these days, in my opinion, dictates what the majority in this country thinks, and it's a crying shame because it's all about promoting liberal agendas and avoiding facts and the truth.

By the way, in no way am I going to apologize for dwelling on media bias. Bias is so very blatant call me a media watchdog if you wish. If the establishment press can obsess on supporting their messiah Obama and his liberal party, I am going to call them out as often as I can on their blatant (and unethical) bias.

Here's the latest that proves media is totally far left and has disdain for the right.

Republican Sen. Marc Rubio gave the GOP rebuttal following the Feb. 12 State of the Union speech by President Obama. Rubio's rebuttal was a masterful delivery describing what conservatism is all about. Rubio could be the GOP's presidential candidate for 2016, therefore, mainstream media is out to destroy him. Rubio had an issue with dry mouth and taking a drink of water during his speech. Media had some 150 columns about "Watergate" or "Waterloo" poking fun of him, while completely ignoring the substance of what he said.

Pretty much at this same time, there was (and still is) a scandal of illegal donor campaign issues with Democrat Sen. Bob Menendez and his shyster companion by the name of Melgen.

The FBI investigation also might include Menendez having sex with underage prostitutes in the Dominican Republic where the two traveled often.

Like Benghazi, the mainstream media's silence on Menendez was a blip on the radar screen, so to speak, as it obsesses over Rubio taking a drink of water. How's that for great non-biased journalism? The media went so far pummeling Rubio to prove their bias, they even made fools of themselves.

Sequester spending cuts were approved by Obama back in 2011. Don't let media tell you it's the fault of Republicans, as media ignores all the lies Obama conjures up about what happens if sequester happens. We are still going to spend more than we did last year. These cuts are a pittance when you look at the big picture -- which no liberal ever wants to do.
