The good doctor

Apparently, I touched a nerve of a certain Dr. John Cody of Hays following my letter to the editor recently about politics.

My first inclination is to ignore his outburst, and I will tell you why. Two years back, I wrote a letter that again touched a nerve of the good doctor as he proceeded to psychoanalyze me with his own letter to the paper. In that psychoanalysis, he admitted that he had never met me.

Two thoughts come to mind as he took me to the wood shed (ha) with personal attacks. One, I knew psychics could analyze people they had never met, but I didn't know retired psychiatrists had such powers. It was really interesting to find out so much about myself I never knew before. As usual, there was name calling.

Another reason not to respond is that many who read me and concur with what I write, would say "consider the source, it's not worthy of a response." However, I am not only up to the challenge but also look forward to it. You know what they say "if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen."

Cody's latest rant said I should "put up or shut up" by defining what I mean by "mainstream media" and what are my sources? I will define "mainstream media" since it is a "teachable moment" for me, but beyond that no way will he or anybody else force me to do anything by using unprofessional language.

My youngest son was insulted when I asked him to define mainstream media, since it is such a basic question. Even my American government students (all of them) a few years back at Ellis High School knew the answer. Just kidding.

Everybody knows "mainstream" means most or majority. Surveys show that journalists (and no doubt other media personnel) give most (like 75 pdercent to 80 percent) of their donations to Democrats. Most are liberals, therefore, "mainstream" in most media is the same ideological thought as Obama and his Democrat Party. Most media is not conservative thinking, speaking or writing, by any stretch.

What is especially interesting is that liberalism may be mainstream in media, however, mainstream among the voting population is conservatism. Surveys show conservatives outnumber liberals 2 to 1. Most media does not reflect the thinking or beliefs of most Americans. Most Americans don't see this country as evil and in dire need of transformation as Obama and company seem to think.

When Cody reads this he will be livid that I do not provide the source of my stats. For one thing, readers aren't interested in reading research papers in the opinion section. For another thing, there isn't enough room on the opinion page to list all I read and study enthusiastically every day. Nor will I be told unprofessionally to put up or shut up. Nor would the paper publish me more than 100 times if I failed to be accurate.

The good doctor called me a "wingnut" just like Michael Reagan, son of President Reagan, and that reputable black economist Walter Williams. In spite of the unprofessional name calling, I am flattered to be put in the same category as those two. Thanks, Doc.

I can't help but think with the poll numbers of Obama dropping like crazy, especially with a number of scandals and the Obamacare fiasco, liberals across the country are coming apart at the seams as well, if you know what I mean.
