Insidious weapons control
Recent Environmental Protection Agency regulations have resulted in the closure of the last lead smelter in this country. Why now? The answer is oblivious.
Lead has been a primary weapons component since Roman times and has for more than 200 years been a primary component in the weapons required to establish our initial freedom during our nation's founding. It has sustained our citizens for sport, defense, food and our military through world wars and the continuing conflicts we face today. Without lead, we are a nation disarmed.
The loss of another U.S. production capability not only affects the hunters and sportsman of this country, but also affects the manufacturing capabilities of numerous manufacturing operations -- both large and small -- and therefore affects our overall economy.
Beyond this, what is the long-term effect on our overall military capability? Most of our current military small arms use a full-metal jacketed bullet with a lead core. In the event of another conflict, such as those in which we currently are involved that require millions of rounds of ammunition, where will we will procure the material needed to provide the support required by our military? Will our primary source of this critical material be supplied by the world's largest producer of lead, China?
In recent years, we have watched as a multitude of federal agencies have been authorized to arm themselves and have procured millions of rounds of ammunition. Estimates indicate these agencies now have stores of ammunition that would be sufficient to support our current military operations for multiple years at current consumption rates. Not only are our federal law enforcement agencies stockpiling arms and ammunition, but more recently, the Department of Agriculture has placed bids for fully automatic weapons and bullet-proof vests. Do these bureaucrats fear our farmers or our livestock?
During the last 40 to 50 years, and never more apparent than under this administration, has there been a concerted effort by the liberal media and our liberal politicians to limit the private ownership and use of firearms by the American public.
Why now? Numerous attempts by this administration have failed to limit the private ownership of firearms; however, if the government can eliminate supplies of ammunition available to the private citizen, they have, in fact, achieved gun control and bypassed the Second Amendment Rights of our Constitution.
We will become an unarmed nation incapable of defending ourselves, and our military will be dependent on foreign suppliers to maintain our status as the greatest nation in the world.
