Your editorial in Tuesday's Hays Daily News should be required reading by every member of the United States Congress and the Obama administration's cabinet. Not only do you tell it like it is but, better yet, you tell it like it should be. We agree with what you say, and we believe the majority of the American people do too.
We don't believe those dumbbells in Washington know the difference between guerrilla fighting and war between organized armies. Ever since I learned to read, there have been guerrillas in the Philippines and, at last report, they are still there. In 10 years, we have sacrificed between 2,000 and 3,000 of our men and women, for what? Last reports indicate that the Afghan farmers are raising more poppies then they did before we invaded 10 years ago; so much for Bush's plan to teach them to grow wheat.
It would seem we learned our lesson in the Indo-China debacle; the Communists wised up, made peace with us and after we pulled out our military units they took over all of Vietnam without a fight. So, we departed Iraq. Now the various tribes and political parties are killing each other. Guess what will happen in Afghanistan when we leave in 2014?
We agree with what you say when speaking of our men and women in harm's way, "Bring them home." One would think our delegations in Washington and the president would have come to that same decision several years ago; we should never have been in Iraq and Afghanistan in the first place, and we have never been given a good reason by the politicians for being there.
The foregoing may give the impression that we have lost faith in our government. On the contrary, we still believe it is the best government on this earth. We are simply sending the wrong people to Washington to do what is best for the United States of America instead of debating on "which decision will get me the most votes"?
Give 'em hell, Patrick!
