In Sunday's paper, we had an unsigned letter I thought was not to be published.

It was from a "pick-and-choose" author who would lead us to believe he/she was a follower of Christ.

The author quotes from Exodus and Deuteronomy about not committing adultery, and then they proceed to support same-sex marriage. Maybe if the author looked at the first book of the Bible, the command of God to Adam and Eve (not Adam and Steve) would have stood out also: "Be fruitful and multiply."

Also in the picking of scripture, the mention of Matthew is made but the only quote is from Mark 10:11. In Mark 10:6-7, Jesus says: "From the beginning of creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife."

About referencing Matthew (chapter 19): While the author speaks of Jesus "clearly" reinforcing the law concerning divorce, they omitted in Matthew 19:9 Jesus says, "Whosoever shall put away his wife except for fornication, and shall marry another, commmitteth adultery." (Understood, another woman ... wife). It appears Jesus allowed for re-marriage here.

There was one truth in the unsigned letter: Jesus didn't say anything about gay marriage. It wasn't practiced. He also didn't say anything about movies and Hollywood exactly, but ... . So that leads us to what? Jesus does not approve of adultery. He told the woman who was caught in the very act, "Neither do I condemn thee, go and sin no more."

We all fall short of what Jesus wants of us. But He does not want us to embrace sin. We should see it for what it is and avoid it.

Now to address the unsigned point. If one has the belief of their convictions, it seems a signature would underscore those beliefs. The author mentions "my adulterous employees" and "my constitutional right to run my business." However, the supporting statement to remain un-named contains the following: "might reflect negatively on my employer."

Those do not balance. The Hays Daily must have overlooked something.

If you are a follower, you need to count the costs and be aware not everyone is going to agree with you. If you're not a believer, it shouldn't matter what we think.
