Government as God

Government as God
Ever wonder what happened to common sense and personal responsibility in this country? Ever wonder what people used to do prior to government social programs? Ever wonder why there is little difference between Democrats and Republicans? Ever wonder why all the rancor and decadence? Think about it: God has been removed and replaced by government. We have lost our trust in God.
God wishes for us to put Him first in our lives. Our Constitution was based on this premise. Government was to serve by providing we the people with limited essential services. Elected representatives were expected to be servants and not career politicians.
Unfortunately, a majority of Americans (and our elected representatives) have removed God from first place. We no longer trust God will provide. Government now is first -- government has become our god -- we have become utterly dependent upon the state. We look to it for our sustenance and view government officials as our voice of moral authority. Many politicians have abandoned their personal faith in order to gain political power. Wisdom (13:10) states, "But doomed are they, and in dead things are their hopes, who termed gods things made by human hands."
This major transition did not happen overnight, nor is it unique to one political party either -- Republicans and Democrats are equally guilty. Social Security was the first great social program. Many have followed once we found we could vote ourselves huge benefits from the federal treasury. Washington now has become firmly entrenched. The concentration of power is startling. If you believe the rhetoric, nothing can get done in this country unless the federal government is involved. Freedom quickly is vanishing. How sad.
Most people of the world live in poverty and tyranny. Government is the source of tyranny and poverty. It is not the solution, as is now popularly held in this country. What started out as a great safety net (Social Security) has turned into hundreds of other social programs, trillions of dollars in debt and most Americans dependent on the government for their basic needs (food, shelter, health care, etc.). We are headed for widespread poverty and tyranny in this country. Economic disaster is soon to come.
The beginning of the solution is new leadership in both political parties. We need to cleanse Washington and start anew. It's absurd to believe those elected officials who have become part of the problem somehow now could be the solution. They firmly have established themselves by power and greed and have become complacent. We must demand a return to "public servants" and destroy the power and corruption that now is Washington.
No senator should serve more than two consecutive terms. No Congressman should serve more than four consecutive terms. The president was limited to two terms for good reason. The source of wealth for professional politicians is the government. They would never, never consider limiting their own terms (and thus their power and source of wealth). It is up to we the people. Eliminating career politicians will help to weaken special-interest groups and ensure fresh ideas.
Both political parties need godly men and women willing to serve and challenge these longtime, powerful incumbents. We cannot be afraid. It won't be easy. It will take several election cycles. Our citizens must be willing to take a risk to support these men and women financially, with our volunteer time and with our prayers.
Thomas Jefferson correctly stated, "All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent." It is time for all people of "good will" to take appropriate action. We are a democracy. We can and still do elect our representatives.
Let us together humbly seek to return our government to serving we the people and return God to His rightful place in our society.
