Quivira National Wildlife Refuge is offering two educational nature workshops.

"Beginning bird watching" will be from 1 to 4 p.m. July 17 and "Learning about grasses and grass-like plants" will be from 1 to 4 p.m. July 31.

Both workshops are free and open to anyone 12 and older.

The bird watching class will cover the basics on what to look for, common birds of the area and a better understanding of Quivira and its importance to birds.

Combining classroom and outdoor settings, the grasses workshop will provide an opportunity to learn about what grasses are, the common grasses of our area and how to tell grasses apart from similar plants.

Workshops will be in Quivira's Environmental Education Classroom. From U.S. Highway 281, the classroom is 14 miles east on NE 140th Street, then three-fourths of a mile south.

Space is limited, so advance registration is required. To register, call the refuge at (620) 486-2393.
