TOPEKA (AP) -- Nine arts groups across Kansas will get state grants to support their work.

The Creative Arts Industries Commission announced Thursday it was awarding grants worth approximately $350,000. The largest was $75,000 for restoration of Gray's Studio in St. John.

The lone northwest Kansas recipient is Goodland Arts Council, which will receive $5,000 to help create a permanent art exhibit in Chambers Park and organize seasonal festivities at the park from July through October.

It was the second round of grants from the commission this year, following eight grants for a total of $58,400 awarded in July.

Kansas Labor Secretary Lana Gordon, who is the commission's chairwoman, says the projects chosen are partnerships between arts, economic development and government organizations.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/19Olio3 ) grants awarded in July were the first state arts funding after a two-year break that began when Gov. Sam Brownback stopped funding for the Kansas Arts Commission, which no longer exists.
