Special to The Hays Daily News

Seven Ellis County Senior Companions were honored last month for their service with the program at the monthly in-service meeting at Sternberg Museum of Natural History.

Those recognized were Jan Schwab, Millie Karlin, Gloria Desch, Arlene Wittman, Beverly Safford and Virjean Reeh, all of Hays; and Adeline Henderson, Ellis.

These companions contributed more than 7,300 hours of their time helping individuals remain independently in their homes.

Senior Companions, at least 55 years old, volunteer their time by assisting others with light chores, errands, transportation to appointments and respite care for family caregivers.

They also make wellness checks, monitor medication and provide daily companionship and support. There is no cost to the clients or families for the services provided.

For information, call (785) 628-5809.
