The HRC office hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, except for Wednesdays, when the office is open until 6 p.m. The HRC phone number is (785) 623-2650.
This project uses a stepping stone with glow-in-the -dark stars. The stars actually light up on the surface of the stones. Entry fee: $5. Date: June 9. Times: 1 to 1:45 a.m. Ages: 3 and older with an adult. Location: Hays Rec. Limitations: Minimum of five with a maximum of 20.
Surprise Dad with something made especially for him. Gifts and special treats will be wrapped for Father's Day and topped off with a handmade card. Entry fee: $7. Date: June 9 Time: 9:30 to 11 a.m. Ages: 3 to 10. Location: Hays Rec. Limitations: Minimum of five with a maximum of 10.
In this two-session clay class, students will create a functional ceramic piece using earthenware clay. The following week, the class will meet again to glaze and color the creation. Students will be able to pick up their projects the following week. Entry fee: $12. Date: June 6 and 13. Time: 10 to 10:40 a.m. Ages: 6 and older. Location: Hays Rec. Limitations: Minimum of five with a maximum of 25 per class.
Fun and Fitness
Get a fun workout using basic body movement and gross motor skills. Gain strength, flexibility and balance crawling up, down, over and through mats, parachutes, hoops and more. At the end of the session, receive a T-shirt. Entry fee: $10. Date: Thursdays in June. Times: 2 to 3 p.m. Ages: Five to 11. Location: Recreation Center Gym three. Limitations: Minimum of five with a maximum of 15.
Ready, set, glow
Come prepared for some gooey black light fun and students will take home their art projects. Entry fee: $6. Date: Thursdays, June 5 through June 19. Time: 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Ages: 6 to 11. Location: Hays Rec. Limitations: Minimum of five with a maximum of 10.
Everyday students will have a full schedule of games, trips, crafts, cooking and trips to Centennial Lanes, mini golf, area parks and Hays Aquatic Park. Space is limited. Entry fee: $10 per session. Locations: June 11, miniature golf Times: 1 to 5 p.m. Ages: 6 to 12. Location: Hays Rec.Limitations: Minimum of five with a maximum of 24.
British Challenger Soccer Camp
Join the Hays Recreation Center for soccer camps. Learn from experienced and knowledgeable instructors. All participants will receive a camp T-shirt and soccer ball. This camp will focus on challenging participants to improve their soccer skills with maximum participation. Sign up online to receive free jersey. Contact HRC for times for your child's program times and fees. Location: Bickle-Schmidt Sports Complex, 1376 Old U.S. Highway 40.
Sign up for the annual Hays Recreation Center sponsored basketball camp. The camp will be open to boys and girls in grades 1 to 8. Players will receive a camp T-shirt. Dates: June 9 through 13. Times: 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., grades five through eight. Location: Hays Rec.
Entry fee: $60. Date: Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 10 to 19. Times: 6:30 to 8 p.m. Ages: 18 and older.Location: Fort Hays Municipal Golf Course, 1450 Golf Course Road. Limitations: Minimum of seven with a maximum of 14.
Fur-ever friends: Puppy course
This class is for puppies ages 10 weeks to six months. Handler must provide a copy of first round of shots. There will need to be one handler per dog. In this class, the puppies will learn socialization and a few of the basic obedience commands. On the fourth week of class, the puppies will be required to complete an agility obstacle course and receive a diploma. Entry fee: $50. Date: Mondays in June. Times: 6 to 7 p.m. Ages: 18 and older.Location: Speier Ballpark, 10th and Vine. Limitations: Minimum of three with a maximum of eight.
Fur-ever friends: Basic obedience course
This class is for dogs that are ages 6 months and up. Handlers must provide a copy of shots that include rabies and bordatella. There will be one handler per dog. The handler and dog will learn basic obedience which includes sit, down, sit-stay, stay-down, leave it and how to walk on a leash. A head collar or pinch collar is preferred for this class. No choke chains are allowed. No flex leashes are allowed, prefer a six to eight foot nylon leash. On the sixth week of class, the dogs will be required to complete an agility obstacle course and receive a diploma. If the handler is unsatisfied with the dog's progression, they can retake the class for half price. Entry fee: $75. Date: Mondays, June 9 to July 14. Times: 7 to 8 p.m. Ages: 18 and older.Location: Speier Ballpark, 10th and Vine. Limitations: Minimum of three with a maximum of eight.

Over night trip
Join adults for an overnight trip to Grand Island, Neb. The bus will leave early in the morning and first stop will be at Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer. The group will check in to the hotel and visit the Moonlight Ridge Vineyard for a shopping spree. The group will leave in the morning stopping at Holdrege back to Hays. Meals are not included. All activities are subject to change. Entry fee: $115 single (Roommate, $75. Sign up with name of the person sharing room.)Date: June 6 to 7. Time: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Age: 55 and older. Depart from: Hays Rec. Limitations: Minimum of five with a maximum of 23.
Special Pops healthy eating
Join in an adventure to learn about healthy eating. Topics will include the Food Pyramid, what are good food choices, and touch on how to cook some of these healthy, easy meals. There will be samples as well. Entry fee: $2. Date: June 5 Times: 5:30 p.m. Ages: All ages welcome. Location: Hays Rec. Limitations: Minimum of five with a maximum of 20.
