Temporary lane closures could be occurring during the next few weeks along Interstate 70 in Sherman County as contractors begin seeding the right-of-way along the newly constructed lanes.

Beginning at the Colorado/Kansas state line and extending 12 miles east, workers will be performing permanent seeding operations along the east and westbound right-of-way, as well as the center median of the interstate.

"Traffic will be minimally affected as one lane of directional travel will remain open during the lane closures," said KDOT Area Engineer Eric Oelschlager.

KDOT awarded the seeding contract totaling $257,743 to Truelsen Blumenthal Soil-Tek, of Grimes, Iowa.

The seeding project is funded by T-WORKS, the transportation program passed by the Kansas Legislature in May 2010.

For questions concerning the project, contact KDOT Area Engineer at (785) 626-3258 or erico@ksdot.org in Atwood; or Kristen Brands, Northwest Kansas Public Affairs manager, at (785) 877-3315 or kristenb@ksdot.org in Norton.
