Letter of thanks
On behalf of the board of directors of the Humane Society of the High Plains and the staff of the Virginia Miller Animal Shelter, I would like to thank the home horticulture Class at Fort Hays State University for performing landscape maintenance at the animal shelter. Two years earlier, the site had been relandscaped by the home horticulture class of 2006. This year, on April 25 as part of National Youth Service Day, 11 students and their instructor, Jean Gleichsner, spent two hours at the site doing additional work. Students planted shrubs and grasses, fertilized, pruned, weeded and put down new mulch. Funding for the project was provided from a Midwest Energy Community Fund. The project was done at no cost to the shelter. Gleichsner, her students and the donor to this project have once again made their mark on the community, and for this we are grateful. This year the humane society celebrates the 30th anniversary of the opening of our first shelter.
