Local celebrities ready to turn left for charity

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ellis County, in partnership with RPM Speedway, is preparing for the fourth annual Race Cars & Superstars.

The race will be at RPM Speedway at the Ellis County Fairgrounds at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 6 and includes local celebrities from a five-county area. Racers from Ellis, Rooks, Rush, Russell and Trego counties will put their driving skills to the test to help raise money for BBBS.

Drivers in this year's Race Cars & Superstars are:

Ellis County:

* Kerry McCue, Ellis County EMS director

* Ed Harbin, Ellis County sheriff

* Bill Ring, Ellis County emergency management director

* Rodney Brown, R.B. Electric

* Marty Patterson, Western Well Service

* Ron Nelson, Downing-Nelson Oil

* Alan Downing, Downing-Nelson Oil

Rooks County:

* Greg Beougher, Stockton National Bank

* Brian Minks, Crawford Supply-Plainville

Trego County:

* Bill Wynn, W.W. Drilling, WaKeeney

Rush County:

* Bill Keeley, LaCrosse Schools superintendent

Russell County:

* Jon Birky, Klema's Hometown Market, Russell

* John Farmer, John O. Farmer Inc., Russell

Returning champions from last year are Greg Beougher for the fastest time and Jon Birky for raising the most money.
