Card of thanks

This is to thank my many friends who shared observing my first 95th birthday by overwhelming me with birthday cards. Thank you also goes to friends who saw me and said "Happy Birthday, old thing!" My soulmate, Darlene, made the day complete by taking me out for a hamburger and fries. She has helped me celebrate 67 birthdays -- that must be close to a record.
This probably seems trite to most folks, but it is important to me. On special days such as Memorial Day, I spend a few moments remembering my war buddies who will never come home. After 68 years, when I do this, I still cry. And yesterday I tried to understand why I had the privilege of living in good health all these years when they died so young. Fair? I think not.
When Uncle Sam invited me to take an all-expense-paid tour all the way from Fort Ord, Calif., to Hitler's Berchtesgaden, Germany, I saw many different countries and people. One positive result of said journey was it convinced me the finest people in the world live right here in Kansas.
Someone once asked my father, "Does Carl speak two languages?" He replied, "Yes, he speaks German fluently ... but English, he is still learning."
So, I will end this in a way I know how to express it best; "Vielle, Vielle, Danke zum alle main gute Freunde."
