Cherie Birkey, RN, HaysMed Wound Care Center, has earned Wound Care Certification from the National Alliance of Wound Care and Ostomy. The WCC provides direct patient wound and skin care in acute, long-term care and home-care settings. Skin and wound management is a specialized area that focuses on overall skin care and promotion of an optimal wound environment, including prevention, therapeutic interventions and rehabilitative interventions. Birkey is the wound care nurse manager and has been an employee of HaysMed since 2009.

Col. Ernest E. Garcia, superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol, has announced Master Trooper Dennis Dinkel has been promoted to lieutenant and will oversee field troopers in the Troop D area or northwest Kansas. Dinkel originally is from Victoria. He graduated from Victoria High School. He earned an associate's degree in criminal justice from Barton County Community College. Dinkel first joined the patrol Jan. 7, 2001, as a trooper I stationed in Ellis County.

Jenny Dixon reached 10 years of service with Nex-Tech on Dec. 8. She is a senior marketing analyst at the Hays office. Eric Pfannenstiel reached 10 years of service with Nex-Tech on Dec. 15. He is a senior combination technician based in Great Bend.
