General information

The HRC office hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, except for Wednesdays, when the office is open until 6 p.m. The HRC phone number is (785) 623-2650.

Open gym hours

Monday through Friday: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Saturday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sunday: 1 to 5 p.m.

HRC programs take priority over open gym time.

A gym schedule is updated weekly and is available each Friday in the office or on the website.

Hays Rec Times

Who's ready for a big time summer? The Hays Rec Times 2013 spring and summer edition will be in mailboxes Friday. Online registration begins at 12:01 a.m. Friday. In-office registration starts April 8.

Wednesday deadline

Pottery and books

Pottery and reading, what a great combination. This program will start with a book followed by painting a piece of pottery that relates to the story. Kids will have a great time using their imagination to create a storybook character or related idea. Entry fee: $13 per session. Date: April 9. Time: 1 to 2 p.m. Ages: 3 and older with an adult. Location: Pottery Works, 126 W. Ninth. Limitations: minimum five, maximum 10. Instructor: Pam Fellers.

English waltz

Waltz is a smooth dance characterized by long, flowing movements, continuous turns, and rise and fall. Graceful and elegant, waltz dancers glide around the floor almost effortlessly. Picture Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. A must for those looking for a smooth, refined dance. Bring a partner, bring some friends or come by yourself. Entry fee: $12 per person. Dates: Saturdays through April 27. Time: Lesson, 7 to 8 p.m.; dancing, 8 to 9:30 p.m. Ages: 18 and older. Location: HRC. Limitations: minimum six, maximum 20. Instructors: Tim and Melanie Folkerts.

USSSA men's slow pitch D&E qualifier

Play will be open for class D and E teams for this qualifier. Double elimination. Entry fee: $175. Date: April 13. Limitations: minimum four teams. Location: Bickle/Schmidt Sports Complex.
