The HRC office hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, except for Wednesdays, when the office is open until 6 p.m. The HRC phone number is (785) 623-2650.

Upcoming events

Lap pool closed today

The Hays Hurricanes is hosting its swim meet this weekend. The lap pool will be closed all day today.

Admission to the aquatic park will be reduced to $2 per person since only the zero-depth pool, lazy river and slides will be available. To check that all bodies of water are open before you come, call the aquatic park at (785) 623-2653.

Wilson Pool will be open regular hours with regular admission ($2 per person).

39th annual Hays Merchants Golf Tournament

Play will be Saturday at Fort Hays Municipal Golf Course and July 21 at Smoky Hill Country Club. The tournament is open to both men and women, with flights for men, women and senior divisions (55 years old and older). All flights must have a minimum of 10 golfers. The number of golfers and Saturday's scores will determine the number of flights. The tournament is open to everyone -- not just Ellis County residents. Cart rentals available at each location for an additional fee. Entry deadline Wednesday. Entry fee: $90. Times: Tee times start at 7:30 a.m. Pick your tee time when you register. Ages: 18 and older.

A day with the dancers

Come hang out with the Hays High dance team for a fun-packed morning. Participants will play games, learn basic dance skills and technique, as well as learn a dance to show parents when they arrive to pick them up. Each participant will need to bring a clean white T-Shirt, and everyone will get to design their own shirt. Snacks and lunch will be provided. Entry fee: $20. Date: July 26. Time: 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Ages: 5 to 12. Location: HRC. Limitations: minimum 10.

School's Out

Come out for a day of fun. Each day we have a full schedule of games, trips, crafts, cooking and trips to Centennial Lanes, mini golf, area parks and Hays Aquatic Park. Space is limited. Entry fee: $10 per session. Next session: July 24, "It's game time." Time: 1 to 5 p.m. Ages: 6 to 12. Location: HRC. Limitations: minimum five, maximum 24.

Special Pops: Pottery Works

Come spend a relaxing afternoon painting at Pottery Works. In each session, we'll paint different pottery including mugs, bowls, figurines and more. Instruction and assistance will be provided for everyone, so come ready to learn. Entry fee: $10 per session. Next sesssion: Thursday. Time: 4 p.m. Ages: All ages. Location: Pottery Works, 126 W. Ninth.

Special Pops: Adapted Day Camp

Campers in the Adapted Day Camp will participate in many activities such as movies, bowling, crafts, miniature golf and many other summertime activities. The camps are open to Hays USD 489 special education cooperative students, ages 7 to 21 only. For more information, contact Gail Wickham, instructor, at (785) 623-2650. Entry fee: $5. Date: July 25, "Master the Art." Time: Noon to 2 p.m. Lunch will be provided. Location: HRC.
